Themes & Display Settings

The Display Settings dialog (gear icon in the chapter view, or via the user menu) lets you tune how the site looks while you read.

Themes

Six built-in themes ship with the site:

  • Light — bright background, dark text
  • Calm — softened light theme, easier on the eyes for long sessions
  • Quiet — muted neutrals, low-contrast
  • Dark — standard dark mode
  • Black — true black background (good for OLED)
  • Custom — write your own CSS

The custom theme exposes a CSS template you can edit directly from Display Settings — change accent colors, paragraph spacing, link styling, whatever. Your custom CSS is saved to your browser, so it follows you between sessions.

Reader Customization

Inside the chapter reader you can also adjust:

  • Font family — 12 options including Inter, Georgia, Charter, Atkinson Hyperlegible, OpenDyslexic, Merriweather, Lora, and more
  • Font size and line height — for comfort
  • Text alignment — left or justified
  • Content width — wider for desktop, narrower for distraction-free reading

Reader Toggles

A few smaller toggles tucked under Display Settings:

  • Entity hints — subtle underline on entity names so you can spot them at a glance (default on)
  • Clickable entities — clicking an entity in the chapter opens its dialog (default off, so stray taps while reading don't break flow)
  • Tips — show contextual tips around the site (default on)
  • Suggestion confirmation toast — toast shown after submitting a glossary edit (default on; can be silenced if you do a lot of edits)

TTS Options

If you have access to Text-to-Speech, the same Display Settings dialog houses voice selection, playback speed, and pause delay between paragraphs.
