Glossary
Every novel has a glossary. It keeps character names, places, skills and key terms stable across thousands of chapters: when a chapter is translated, the AI uses known entities as hints and adds any new ones it finds.
Entities are local (one novel, created automatically during translation) or general (shared across novels in a genre — e.g. "Dou Qi" in Xianxia/Xuanhuan — and can span several categories).
Finding the Glossary
- Novel page → Glossary button near the heading: every entity for that novel.
- Chapter page → entity names are highlighted (toggleable in Display Settings). Click one to open its dialog.
- Browse → Glossary: all general entities sitewide.
Editing an Entity
Click an entity to open its dialog and change:
- Translation — the English name
- Gender — affects pronouns
- Active / inactive for this novel
- General — promote it sitewide
- Chapter Overrides — mid-story changes (below)
- Its Codex wiki — generate or view
Mods' edits apply immediately; everyone else's go through Discord review.
To add an entity, click the add button on the chapter page and type the English name. The matching original-language text is found automatically, and the entity is used in later translations.
Personal Translations
Set your own name for any entity. It applies instantly for you, with no mod approval.
- Open the entity dialog → "Set personal translation".
- Your version replaces the public one everywhere you read this novel.
- Personal translations carry a subtle dashed underline in the text.
- The dialog suggests popular community picks — adopt one with a click.
- Review or undo yours with the "My Translations" filter on the novel's glossary page.
When 2 or more users settle on the same personal translation, it's proposed to mods as the new public default.
Community Suggestions
Display Settings → Glossary → community suggestions controls the blue underline on terms other readers have translated. Turn it off and the underline disappears, but those terms stay tappable so you can still set your own translation.
Mid-Story Overrides
For changes that should only kick in from a certain chapter. Open an entity → Chapter Overrides, then stack chapter-bounded segments:
- Gender — "feminine from chapter 50 onwards", without breaking earlier chapters' pronouns.
- Active / inactive — for names that are also ordinary words. A monster called "Silence" can be active early, then deactivated so the LLM stops writing "everyone fell Silence". Multiple flips are supported.
Only chapters whose effective state actually changes get flagged for retranslation. Mods auto-apply; everyone else goes through Discord review.
When you deactivate an ordinary-word name, the dialog offers "lowercase instead of retranslating": it lowercases the name in place across already-translated text ("Silence" → "silence") instantly, spending no retranslations. If you enter a new translation in the same edit, that new word is the one lowercased.
General Entities
A general entity that doesn't fit one novel can be excluded just there: novel's glossary page → General tab → exclude. It stays available everywhere else.
Tips
- Detection works best on proper names of 2+ characters.
- Single-character entities are context hints — the AI decides from context.
- Wrong name? Edit the glossary, then retranslate the chapter.
- Retranslation only updates incorrect entities; correct ones are left alone.
